Jack D. Dickerson, age 78, of Greendale, formerly
of Dillsboro, died Saturday evening, July 10, 2010 very
unexpectedly at Dearborn County Hospital. He was born Sept 15,
1931 in Ohio County to Clarence Dickerson and Naomi Jasper Dickerson.
On Dec 1, 1973 he was married to Beyreda Watkins, and she survives.
From 1952 until 1955 he served his country during the Korean
War in the US Air Force. Jack worked for many years as a Tankerman
for an Oil Transport Co. on the Barges. In the early 70's he
ran Jack's Tavern in Dillsboro. Jack loved turkey & deer
hunting, and would fish anytime at any place he was invited.
He was a member of the Dillsboro American Legion & the Lawrenceburg
Eagles. He was known as "Uncle Jack" to many nieces,
nephews and friends. Surviving is his wife, Beyreda; 12 children,
Randy (Donna Dickerson), Ronnie (Sunday) Wright, and Naomi (Gerald)
Watson, all of Dillsboro, Earnest (Cathy) Hogsten, of Lawrenceburg,
Nelda (Travis) Lofton, of Healdton, OK, Joyce Wright, of Canaan,
IN, Brenda (Mick) Riley, of Pleasant, IN, Charlotte (Marvin)
Robinette, of Shelbyville, IN,an Faye McKinsey, Brenda (Gerald Tichenor,
Marty (Wayne) Lacey, and Beverly Hogsten, all of Greensburg,
IN; 21 grandchildren several great greanchildren; 3 brothers,
Estal, Jim, & Jerry Dickerson. He was preceded in death
by his parents, 1 son in infancy, and 2 brothers, Harry &
Clarence Dickerson. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, July
14, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Hope Baptist Church, 15593 US 50,
in Dillsboro. Interment will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Dillsboro.
Visitation with the family will be Tuesday July 13, 2010 from
5-9 p.m. at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Memorials
may be given to the Arthritis Foundation.
Mary Ann Shinkle, age 83, of Lawrenceburg, formerly
of Dillsboro, passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 30,
2010 at Deaconess Hospital in Cincinati. She was born in Boone
County, KY on July 21, 1926 to Lee Craddock and Beulah Stevens
Craddock. She was a homemaker and a seamstress. Mrs. Shinkle
was a former member of Dillsboro Baptist Church. On August 19,
1944 she was married to Henry Grayson Shinkle and he passed
away in December of 2005. She was also preceded in death by
her parents, 1 sister, Nareta, and 2 brothers, Harold &
Arnold. Surviving are her 4 children, Berneta (Tom) Wafford,
of Dillsboro, Grayson (Pam) Shinkle, of Lawrenceburg, Kenny
Shinkle of Dillsboro, and Paastor Gordon (Ruth) Shinkle, of
Lawrenceburg; 1 grandchild, 19 great grandchildren; 2 sisters,
Wanda Young and Betty Lou Craddock, both of Florence KY. Funeral
services will be Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Filter-DeVries
Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Visitation at the Funeral Home will
be Friday, July 2, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be in Oakdale
Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Kidney Foundation or
to Lawrenceburg Life Squad.
Sondra Joyce Frey, age 74, of Dillsboro, formerly of Moores Hill,
passed away Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Dearborn County Hospital. Sondra
was born October 24, 1935 in Milan, IN to Joseph and Fay Moehring.
On February 9, 1954 she was united in marriage to Robert D.
Frey, and he passed away on July 28, 2007. Sondra was a homemaker, and
a special Mom to her family; she never complained or asked for anything
- she lived a plain, simple life as a God fearing person. She was
loving and kind, her family was very special to her. Sondra was a
member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church in Moores Hill for many
years Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her
parents; 1 daughter, Tracy Brown, and 1 grandaughter, both in 1987.
Surviving are 2 sons, Robert (Natalie) Frey Jr., of Wyoming and Darvin
(Melissa) Frey, of Beattyville, KY; 1 daughter, Brenda (Bruce) Roeder,
of Dillsboro; 11 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday, June 21, 2010 at 11:00
a.m. at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro, with Rev. Charlie
McKinley officiating. Interment will be in South Sparta Cemetery in
Moores Hill. The family will meet friends at the funeral home on
Sunday, June 20, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Charlie
McKinley's Ministry.
