Joyce Wanette Davidson, age 75, of Milan, died Sunday, August 31, 2008
at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati. She was born June 19, 1933 in
Canalou, MO to Aubrey Davidson and Edith Hinchey Davidson. Joyce was a
homemaker, and dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great
grandchildren. She was a hard worker, who sacrificed everything she
could so her family could have what they needed. Joyce came from a
large family, and she dearly loved her brothers and sisters and their
families. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Leon
and Wayne Davidson; 1 grandson. Surviving are 5 sons, Eugene Ledbetter,
of Dillsboro, Dwayne Bruce, of Trenton, OH, James Bruce, of Dillsboro,
Steven Bruce, of Hamilton, OH, Michael Evans, of Frankfort, KY, 2
daughters, Sandra Duckett, of Granite City, ILL, and Denese Anderson,
of Milan, IN; 6 Brothers; Charles Davidson, of Glen Carbon, IL, Jerry
Davidson, of Edwardsville, IL, Morris & Carrell Davidson, of
Springfield, MO, and Randy & David Davidson, of Tulsa, OK; 4
sisters, Paula & Linda Davidson, of Charleston, West VA, Lisa
Kirksy, of Dover, Tenn, and Rita Pauluhn of Florissant, MO; 18
grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be
Wednesday, Sept 3, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. from Hope Baptist Church, 15593 US
50 in Dillsboro, with Pastor Tom Holt officiating. Interment is at
Craven Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until
1:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be given to the family.
Dallas C. Gibbs, age 74, of Aurora, died Sunday, August 17, 2008 at
Mercy General Hospice in Western Hills, OH. He was born in Aurora, IN
on Oct 2, 1933 to Ewing Gibbs and Nannie Baxter Gibbs, and attended
school in Aurora. In 1953 he joined the US Air Force, and served his
country until 1956. On March 29, 1963 he was married to Lorena L.
Morehead, who survives. Dallas was employed at Aurora Casket Co for 35
years, working in shipping and receiving. Dallas was musically
inclined, he played with a group while stationed in the Air Force, and
when he returned from service. He was gifted, in that he could play
several instruments. He also was into sports; the Cincinnati Reds, and
Bengals were his passion for many years. He also loved to watch
wrestling and Nascar racing. Surviving besides his wife, Lorena, are 4
children; Darryl Gibbs, of Lawrenceburg, Bryon (Tracy) Gibbs, of
Aurora, Cheryl Gibbs, of Aurora, and Tricia (Osborne) Gibson, of Rising
Sun, IN; 15 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by his parents, and 1 brother, Chalmer Gibbs, and 1 sister,
Mildred Kerney. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 21, 2008 at
12 Noon from the Aurora Fire & Rescue building, 5950 Dutch Hollow
Road in Aurora. (at the top of the hill) Visitation will be the same
day from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Fire & Rescue
Building. Arrangements are being handled by Filter-DeVries Funeral Home
in Dillsboro.
Benjamin Arthur Davidson, age 82, of Aurora, died Wednesday, August 6,
2008 at his residence following a long illness. He was born Dec 24,
1925 in Wewoka, OK to George William Davidson and Jenny Elizabeth
Keefer Davidson. He graduated from high school in Oklahoma and in his
early years he worked with horses, breaking them in so people could
ride them and they could be useful for other purposes. He also worked
in the California ship yards as a welder. In Nov of 1952 he married
Jean Reed. Ben worked as a pipe fitter at Seagrams for 26 years. He
worked on race cars, and was an avid collector of many items. Ben
served his country in the US Navy for 2 years, and served in the South
Pacific Theatre. He enjoyed his memberships in the Aurora VFW, American
Legion, and the Aurora Moose Lodge. His wife, Jean, passed away in
April of 1970. On Jan 5, 1974 he was married to Mary Carole Ross, who
was a wonderful caregiver to him these past years during his illness.
Besides his wife, Mary Carole Davidson, Ben is survived by 1 son,
Benjamin (Collisha) Davidson, of Aurora; 3 daughters, Darlene (Orvell)
Johnston, of Bright, Sheri (Jim) Edwards, of W. Milton, OH, and Gena
(Tony) Winn, of Picayune, MS; 2 brothers, James Davidson and Raymond
Leroy Davidson; 3 sisters, Naomi Jeske, Betty Jeanne Paschall, and
Shirley Ann Riggs; 21 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren; 3 step
children; Vicki (Mike) Fraley, Sherry Rosner, and Geoff Washnock.
Besides his first wife, Jean, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, 1
sister, and 1 daughter in infancy. Funeral services will be Monday, Aug
11, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. from Holmes Hill Church of Christ in Aurora.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the church. Interment is at
Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro. Memorials may be given to Holmes Hill
Church of Christ or to Oakdale Cemetery. Arrangements are being made by
Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro.
Ruth L. Cutter, age 85, of Farmer's Retreat, passed away Wednesday,
July 30, 2008 at Dearborn County Hospital. Ruth was born Jan. 1, 1923
in Friendship, IN to Jesse Linkmeyer and Hulda Vinup Meyer. On June 1,
1940 she was married to Raymond E. Cutter, and he preceded her in death
in 1985. Ruth was a lifelong resident of Farmer's Retreat and St.
John's Lutheran Church. She was very active in her church, including
the Ladies Leagues. Ruth was an excellent cook and loved her family
dearly. She was a retiree of Seagrams. Surviving are her 2 sons;
Robert(Rebecca) Cutter, of Versailles, and Ronald (Jane) Cutter, of
Georgetown, KY; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 2 sisters,
Esther Gilland ofOlean, IN, and Marylou Narwald, of Batesville. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; 2 sisters, Thelma and
Dorothy; 1 brother, James Linkmeyer; and 2 grandchildren. Funeral
services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from St. John's Lutheran Church
in Farmer's Retreat. Interment is at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home

Charles L. "Charlie" Lang, age 82, of Dillsboro, died Tuesday, July 29,
2008 at the Waters of Dillsboro Ross Manor. He was born in Clay
Township, Dearborn County on June 1, 1926 to Albert Lang and Edith
Schill Lang. In 1942 he joined the US Army and served during WWII in
Italy and Germany. Charlie was a POW for 30 days after being captured
during the Battle of the Bulge. He returned home in 1944 and started
again at Lawrenceburg High School where he graduated in 1946. On Sept
27, 1949 he was married to Darlene Disbro. Charlie worked at Schenley
Distillery from 1950 to 1988. He was a member of Northcutt-Laaker
American Legion Post #292, Aurora VFW Post 5312, the Aurora Moose
Lodge, and Hopewell Masonic Lodge #80 F&AM in Dillsboro. Charlie
was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene, in 1990, and by a grandson,
Keith Lang, and his brother, Lawrence Lang. Surviving is his son, Gene
(Sandra) Lang, of Aurora; his daughter, Connie Lang, of Dillsboro; 2
grandaughters, April Lang and Amy Lang and her finance' Geoff Ashcraft,
and his brother, Alfred Lang of Greenwood, IN. Funeral services will be
Friday at 1:00 p.m. from Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro.
Interment Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral homel will be
Thursday from 5-8 p.m. There will be a Masonic service Thursday evening
at 7:30 p.m.
Mrs. Anna M. Sizemore, age 79, of Aurora, passed away Wednesday, July
23, 2008 at the Waters of Dillsboro in Dillsboro, Indiana. She was born
June 29, 1929 in Ohio County, IN to Blevy Gabbard and Susan Barrett
Gabbard. Anna was an active member of Greendale Baptist Church, where
she taught Sunday School for many years. She loved children and working
with them at church. Anna was also active in the church choir for
several years. She loved gardening and flowers. In 1986 Anna was
married to George Sizemore. She was employed as a care giver for AMPM
Health Care, working in Cincinnati. In later years her health failed,
and she was a resident of Dillsboro Manor for several years. Surviving
is her husband, George Sizemore; 1 son, Danny (Brenda) Clem, of Aurora;
1 step daughter, Deborah (Mike) Cochran, of Milford, Ohio, and 1 step
son, Gregory Sizemore, of Oneida, KY; 1 grandson, Daniel Clem; 4 step
grandchildren; 2 sisters, Maudie Adams, of Marion, IN and Dorothy
"Dottie" Farrel, of Dillsboro. Funeral services will be Saturday, July
26, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. from Greendale Baptist Church. Interment
Greendale Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 5-8 p.m. at

Ethelena Sophia Berkemeyer, age 86, of Bear Branch, passed away
Saturday morning, July 19, 2008 at her residence. Ethelena was born on
Feb 6, 1922 in Pike Township in Ohio County to John Nienhiser and
Elanora Benne Nienhiser. She graduated from Dillsboro High School in
1940, and was united in marriage to Raymondl Berkemeyer Dec 17, 1942 in
Oaklahoma City, where Raymond was stationed with the US Army. Her
husband passed away August 17, 1991 after 49 years of marriage.
Ethelena enjoyed her life; she and Raymond lived most of their married
life on the farm that she grew up on. She enjoyed her friends, and
playing cards with them. St. Peter's Lutheran Church at Milton Bear
Branch was where she worshipped with her husband for pretty much her
entire life, and this was a very important part of her life. Ethelena
was in good health until the last few years, when she suffered with
her illness. It was on Saturday morning, July 19, 2008 at 1:30 a.m.
that she passed away and went home to be with her Lord. She was
preceded in death by her parents, John & Elanora Nienhiser, her
brother, Loraine, her sister, Leona, and her husband Raymond, along
with several cousins and friends. She is survived by her nephews;
Harris Junior and Margaret Stegemiller and family, and Norman &
Linda Stegemiller and family, all of Rising Sun; care givers Teresa
York and Martina Mosley, several great nieces and great nephews,
cousins and friends. Her funeral service will be Wednesday, July 23,
2008 from St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Bear Branch. Interment will be
in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at Filter-DeVries
Funeral Home in Dillsboro on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. Memorials may be

Florence R. Lade, 91,
of Dillsboro passed away Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Ripley Crossing in
Milan. She was born on March 3, 1917 at Gothenburg, Nebraska to Charles
and Louisa Younghands Brestel. She was married to the Rev. Alvin R.
Lade on November 24, 1935. Florence was a true pastor’s wife, working
along side her husband when he was pastor of the Trinity Lutheran
Church from 1967 to 1977. She loved quilting, doll making, and later in
life became Activities Director at Dillsboro Manor. Her husband passed
away in 1987. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter on
January 6, 1939. Surviving are 9 children: Monica (Ray) Parker, Larry
(Brenda) Lade, Rev. Charles Lade, Marcus Lade, David (Barb) Lade, Ella
(Ron) Colwell, Kathy (Dean) Cutter, Jonathan (Hwei Jean) Lade, and Joy
(Bob) Richards; 26 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; three
sisters, Vera VanAlmen, Betty Kaaz, and Maxine Schnoor. The funeral
service will be Saturday, July 19 at 11am at the Trinity Lutheran
Church in Dillsboro. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation
will be Friday from 5pm to 8pm at the Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in
Dillsboro. Memorials may be given to the Lutheran Hour.
Sylvia “Jeannie" Hubbard, age 64, of Dillsboro,
died Wednesday, July 10, 2008 at the Waters of Dillsboro. Jeannie
was born April 23, 1944 in Milan, IN to Wilbur and Lucy Baker Hubbard.
Jeannie lived with her parents for many years, and was employed
at Wildridge's Restauraurant in Aurora and The Coffee Cup Restaurant
in Dillsboro for many years. She loved to play the piano, and attended
Olive Branch Baptist Church for many years. She is survived by her
uncle, Lonnie Hubbard,of Moores Hill, and her aunt, Mae Voris, of
Lawrenceburg; numerous cousins and friends. The funeral service
will be Monday, July 14, 2008 at 1:00pm at Filter-DeVries Funeral
Home, Dillsboro. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 a.m. until
1:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the activity fund of Dillsboro
Manor.
Mrs. Alma Marie Beckman, age 101, formerly of Aurora, passed away Thursday, June
12, 2008 in Cincinnati. She was born May 19, 1907 in Ohio County, IN, to Gilbert
& Mary Brandt Walston. She was married to Theodore Beckman, who died in
1995. She was a retired homemaker and was formerly a piano teacher. She was a
past member of Aurora First Baptist Church. Surviving is her son David (Camille)
Beckman, of Lawrenceburg, and her daughter, Marjorie (Donald) Marksberry, of
Gaithersburg, MD; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services will
be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro, IN.
Interment Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation Monday 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the
funeral home. The family wishes to thank Riverview Nursing Home in Cincinnati
for the wonderful care given to Alma over these past several years.
Paul H. "Mike" Stegemiller, age 89, of Dillsboro, formerly of Farmers Retreat,
passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the Waters of Dillsboro, Ross Manor. Mike
was born May 15, 1918 in Caesar Creek Township to William Stegemiller and Mabel
Cutter Stegemiller. Mike graduated from Versailles High School in the class of
1936. In 1948 he was united in marriage to Carrie L. Cartwright, and she passed
away in December of 1998. Mike was a US Navy Veteran, serving his country from
1944-1946. He was a farmer in the Farmers Retreat area for many years, and was a
Township Trustee for 12 years in Caesar Creek Township. Preceding him in death
besides his wife, Carrie, are 3 brothers; Herbert "Bud", Francis "Fritz", and
Howard "Short" Stegemiller. Surviving are 2 sisters; Ruth Marsh, of Greendale,
IN, and Jeanette Tufts, of Cincinnati; 2 sisters-in-law, Ruth Stegemiller, of
Greenwood, IN and Mary Jeanette Stegemiller, of Cross Plains, IN; 9 nieces and 7
nephews. Funeral services will be Monday, May 4, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. from
Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Interment with full military rites
will be at Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-8 p.m. at the

Wilma Evelyn Walston, age 82, of Dillsboro, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2008
at the Waters of Dillsboro. Wilma was born Oct 25, 1925 in Sidney, Nebraska, to
Frederick Bushman and Clara Reker Bushman. On April 8, 1947, she was united in
marriage to Donald Walston, and he passed away on May 29, 1981. In the 1940's
and 50's she resided in Bear Branch, before moving to Friendship for 2 years.
For the past 47 years, Wilma has been a resident of Dillsboro. During WWII she
was employed at Conn Organ Company in Madison, and in later years worked as a
clerk at J & J Liquor and at the Drug Store in Dillsboro. She was active in
the 50+ club in Dillsboro, and Wilma was a very active member of Trinity
Lutheran Church. She was active in the LWML of Trinity Lutheran Church. She is
survived by 2 sons, Jay (Melissa) Walston, of Dillsboro, and Tim (Becky)
Walston, of Versailles; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Donald; 1 son, Steven Walston; and 1 brother, Dale
Bushman. Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. from Trinity Lutheran
Church in Dillsboro. Interment Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation at Filter-DeVries
Funeral Home in Dillsboro will be Sunday from 4-7 p.m. Memorials may be made to

Melba G. Campbell, age 83, a native of Aurora, and presently a resident of
Waters of Dillsboro, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Dearborn County Hospital.
She was born in Aurora on April 17, 1925 to G.Cletus Campbell and Louise Fisk
Campbell. Melba graduated from Aurora High School in 1943. She resided in
Florida for 10 years, and spent most of her adult life in Indianapolis working
in the insurance business. She loved singing and being around people. She is
survived by 1 son, John R. Ferguson, of Indianapolis, and 1 grandson, John T.
Ferguson, of North Carolina; 3 sisters, Mary Tobias, of Florida, Peggy (Robert)
Sanford, of West Chester, OH, and Rita (Bill) Cunningham, of Lawrenceburg; many
nieces & nephews, and 1 Brother -in-law, Bernie Skidmore. She was preceded
in death by a granddaughter,Chrissy; and 2 sisters, Sue Skidmore and Evelyn
Siegel. Funeral services will be Saturday at 12 Noon from Filter-DeVries
Funeral Home in Dillsboro, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Brian Sulllivan, age 32, a lifelong
Dillsboro resident, died unexpectedly on Wed, April 9, 2008 at Dearborn County
Hospital. He was born July 28, 1975 in Lawrenceburg to William "Ron" Sullivan
and Janice Kuhlman Sullivan. He graduated from Dearborn High School in 1993, and
was a Mason and a member of the American Legion Post 292. He served his country
in the US Army from 1993-2001. On April 26, 1997 he was married to Cassie Abele,
and even though they divorced, Brian
& Cassie remained close friends and have been wonderful parents to their
children. Brian also was a former volunteer fireman for Dillsboro Fire Dept. He
was employed at Lawrenceburg Distillery as a supervisor. Brian was preceded in
death by his father, "Ron" Sullivan, and
his grandparents, Harold and Sadie Kuhlman and John and Helen Creech. Surviving
is his mother, Janice Sullivan, of Dillsboro; his 2 children, Jackson Hunter
Sullivan and Emma Makenzie Sullivan; and his brother, Jason Mark Sullivan. He is
also survived by the mother of his children and his close friend, Cassie Abele.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. from Trinity
Lutheran Church in Dillsboro. Interment is in Oakdale Cemetery with full
military honors from American Legion Post 292. Visitation will be at
Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro Sunday from 4-7 p.m. with Masonic rites
at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the family.
Amos E. McClellan, age 76, of Franklin,
IN, formerly a long time Dillsboro
resident, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at the Waters of
Dillsboro. Amos was born Sept. 2, 1931 in Ohio County to Haskell
and Helen Hall McClellan. In April of 1962 he married Dorothy
Myers, who died in July ofl 1994. Amos was a partner of the former
AE Pitcher Construction Company; a member of the Trafalgar United
Methodist Church, Murat Shrine and past President of the Director's
Staff; member of Johnson County Shrine, the Ancient Accepted Scottish
Rite of Indianapolis, Southport Lodge No. 270 F & AM, and the
Royal Order of Jesters. Amos had a lot of friends who were very
important to him. Surviving is his daughter, Gayla (Gary) Scott,
and grandson Zachary, of Dillsboro; his granddaughter, Stacy (Sam)
McConnell, of Fairfield, OH; his great granddaughter, Natalie McConnell;
2 brothers, Lowell McClellan, of Butlerville and Robert (Sue) Mc
Clellan, of Greenfield; 2 dear friends, Leon McGuire and Carol Lower,
of Franklin, Ind; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was
preceded in death by 2 brothers, Paul & Leroy, and his wife,
Dorothy. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 11:00
a.m. from Filter-DeVries Funeral Home, Dillsboro. Interment Oakdale
Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home Friday from 5-8 p.m.. Memorials
may be made to the Shriner's Childrens Hospital or to the Hopewell
Presbyterian Church in Dillsboro.
Joseph G. McKeever, age 53, of Dillsboro,
died unexpectedly Friday, April 4, 2008 at his home. He was born July 24, 1954
in Ft. Dix, NJ to Gerald McKeever and Audrey Crupi. McKeever.
Joseph graduated from high school, and began doing construction
work. He served his country in the US Army from 1973-74. On July 24, 1995, he
was married to Kathy Henry, who survives. They lived in Florida
until 2005 when they returned to Dillsboro. Joseph was a member of Post
292 American Legion in Dillsboro. Besides his wife, Kathy, Joe
leaves his daughter, Josie McKeever, of Dillsboro; a step daughter
and son-in-law, Heather and Mark Cutter, of Dillsboro; his cousin, Anita and
Jeffrey Jones, of Aurora; mother-in-law, Marcella Henry, of Dillsboro; 2
grandchildren; Johnathon Cutter and Dalton Cutter. Funeral services will be
Monday, April 7, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. from Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in
Dillsboro. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 p.m. Memorials may be given to the
family.
Gary J. Witteride was born February 9, 1953
in Cincinnati to Harry Witteride and Louise Art. He was married to Bonnie West
in 1973, and they were blessed with 2 children, Lori and Greg. Gary was a family
man, he loved his home and doing things around the house. He enjoyed hunting and
fishing, and was a good dad and husband. Gary was employed at Kroger since 1970,
and had just retired March 1 of this year. It was on Wednesday, March 19, 2008
that he suffered a heart attack and passed away unexpectedly. He leaves to mourn
his wife, Bonnie, his 2 children, Lori (Donnie) Klaver and Greg Witteride; his
mother, Louise Witteride; 3 grandchildren, Tristin, Nathan, & Grayce; 1
sister, Rosemarie Page, and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his
brother, Jim, and his father, Harry. Gary's family will miss him dearly, but
they know he is in a better place. A graveside service will be Tuesday at 10:30
a.m. at Riverview Cemetery in Aurora with Pastor Charlie Hill officiating.
Visitation will be held at Rullman-Hunger-Denny Funeral Home in Aurora Monday
from 5-8 p.m. Memorials may be given to Aurora Little League or PAWS.

Dillsboro.
Anna Lee Roberts was
born March 28, 1929 to Raymond Marshall and Lottie Hodge Marshall in Sale Creek,
Tenn. Anna married Sam Roberts in 1963 and they enjoyed 45 wonderful years of
marriage together. Anna loved to plant flowers and work in the garden. She and
Sam built a farm from the ground up, and she enjoyed working on the farm. Anna
enjoyed sitting on the porch with her family after a hard day at work at the
Waters of Dillsboro/Ross Manor. Anna spent 35 + years working in housekeeping
with the residents and was a well loved employee. Many of the residents
considered her a part of their families.
Surviving is her husband, Sam Roberts; 2 children, John Roberts and his fiancée,
Jennifer Artressia, of Bear Branch, and Mary Lou Roberts, of Bear Branch; her step children, who she
loved and treated as her own children;
Sam Roberts, Jr., Eddie Ray Roberts, Carol Ann Weaver, Vernon Roberts, Kenneth
Roberts, and Leslie Davidson. She also leaves behind many beloved grandchildren,
and her brother, Leon Marshall, of Cleveland, Ohio. It was on late Thursday
evening, March 20, 2008 Anna went home to be with the Lord at University
Hospital in Cincinnati. Her family will miss her greatly, but they know where

Richard C. Hallgarth, age 74, of Dillsboro, died Friday evening, March 14, 2008
following a long illness. "Dick" as he was known, was born May 19, 1933 in
Vineland, NJ to Clarence and Elizabeth Crothers Hallgarth. He graduated from
Dillsboro High School in 1951, and entered the US Air Force in 1952 where he
served until 1956. Upon returning to Dillsboro, he met Mary Jane Diefendahl and
they were married on Dec 23, 1956. Dick worked in California for
McDonnell-Douglas from 1956 until 1974. Dick & Mary Jane moved to Arizona
where he was employed at the Salt River Project and the Navajo Generating
Station until 1994. They returned to Dillsboro. Dick is a past Master of the
Hopewell Masonic Lodge in Dillsboro. In 1999 his wife, Mary, passed away. In
2007 he met Judie Hamby, who became a wonderful friend, and the second love of
his life. During Dick's illness, she became a caregiver like no one has ever
known! Dick is survived by his wonderful friend and caregiver, Judie Hamby; 2
sons; James (Trina) Hallgarth, of Dillsboro, and Richard (Lisa) Hallgarth, of
Moores Hill; 2 daughters, Elizabeth (Steve) Blair, of Dillsboro, and Deborah
Hallgarth, of Shelton, WA; 5 grandchildren; Alica, Kyle, Kortney, Katheryn, and
Mary; 6 great grandchildren; Cristal, Auriana, Tanner, Janelle, Payton, and
Bai'Leigh. Memorial services will be Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. from
the Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Dillsboro, with Rev. Arnold Cutter

Jesse "Junior" J. Shelton, Jr., age 78, a lifelong Dillsboro resident, died
Friday evening, March 14, 2008 at the Waters of Dillsboro. Jesse was born April
14, 1929 in Ripley County to Jesse Shelton Sr., and Alma Niemeyer Shelton. He
was a builder and contractor for many years in the Dillsboro area, and was
co-owner of Shelton & Rump Contractors. Jesse was a member of Dillsboro
United Methodist Church and served on the board of directors of Oakdale Cemetery
in Dillsboro. On May 1, 1948, he was united in marriage to Frances Oak, who
survives. Jesse was an avid collector of old Ford Tractors and old farm tools.
Jesse and Frances were named King & Queen of the Dillsboro Homecoming Parade
in 2000. In 2003, Jesse was named the Dillsboro Outstanding Citizen of the Year
at the Homecoming Parade. He loved mowing grass and being outdoors working. His
family was so very important to him, especially the grandkids. Having family
over with big meals was a wonderful thing that Jesse enjoyed. Above all of his
accomplishments, he was an outstanding husband, father, and grandfather, and he
provided for his family above and beyond. Surviving besides his wife, Frances,
are his 6 children; Kenny (LeeAnn) Shelton, of Aurora, Don (Tami) Shelton, of
Dillsboro, Bill (Kelly) Shelton, of Aurora, Linda (Mike) Kreinhop, of Aurora,
Sharon (Ken) Cleeter, of Aurora, and Sarah (Danny) McClellan, of Dillsborol; 14
grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Bobby Shelton; 1 sister, Nancy
Smith; and his former business partner and brother-in-law, Arnold Rump. He was
preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister. The funeral service will be

Ruby Lois Cutter, age 72, of Dillsboro, died Sunday, March 9, 2008 at Ripley
Crossing, in Milan, Indiana. She was born Nov 17, 1935 in Ripley County, IN to
Dewey and Aldean Peelman Ricketts. She attended school in Friendship, IN, and in
1953 she married Carroll Cutter. Ruby and Carroll were blessed with 4 children;
William, Mary, Melody, and Rick. Ruby was a member of Dillsboro Church of
Christ, and enjoyed playing bingo with her friends. She raised Pekingese dogs
for many years, and enjoyed it. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband,
Carroll, in 1992, and her son, Rick, in 1990. Surviving are her 3 children;
William (Bill) "Melody" Cutter, of Dillsboro, Mary Kephart, of Tenn, and Melody
(George) Barber, of Dillsboro; 1 brother, Dale Ricketts, and her sister, Eva
Fern Jackson; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.Funeral services will be

Norma H. Melson, age 92, passed away Tuesday, Feb 26, 2008 at Dearborn County
Hospital. A lifelong resident of Aurora, Norman was born Aug 31, 1915 in Mt.
Sinai to John E. House and Anna Maria Dittmer. She was married to Samuel M.
Melson and he passed away Sept 4, 1987. She was a retired homemaker, who enjoyed
music, flowers, and animals. Surviving are her 2 sons; Samuel M. (Vickie) Melson

Margaret V. Seaver "Boots" 81, of Dillsboro passed away on
Wednesday,
February 13,2008 at Dearborn County Hospital.
She was born on November 7, 1926 in Cincinnati, OH to Elzie and Mollie
Elkins Willman. Survivors include two
sons; Johnnie R. Seaver (Jackie) of
Dillsboro and Bobby Bowman (Barbara) of Cleves, OH, two brothers:Herbie Willman
(Vickie) of Aurora and Cliffy Willman (Loretta) of Stateline Rd. one sister: Lillian Cox of Cincinnati, OH Six
grandchildren: Johnnie Seaver Jr., Shawn Seaver, Chasity Seaver, Bobby Bowman
Jr., Timmy Bowman, J.B.Bowman. Several
Great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many friends. She was proceeded in death by her parents and
several brothers and sisters. Margaret
was employed for several years at Beverly
Industries and many years at Friendship flea market. She was also a member of the Ripley County Democratic Party for several

Joy Pelsor , age 80, of Muncie, IN, formerly of Dillsboro, died Saturday ,
December 22, 2007 at Muncie Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born Dec
2, 1927 in Moores Hill, IN, the daughter of Frank Cole and Mary Griffin Cole.
Joy graduated from Dillsboro High School, class of 1945, and in 1946 she was
united in marriage to Lee Pelsor, who passed away in 1982. Joy was a long time
member of Dillsboro United Methodist Church, where she was active in many
organizations. She and her husband both were employed at Seagrams for many
years. Joy was a member of the Versailles Chapter 333 of the Eastern Star, and
held district and state offfices. She was most proud of her family, she loved
her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Joy put herself into
whatever she did - being with friends, traveling, and socializing with her many
friends in Dillsboro. In 1992 she moved to Muncie to be closer to her daughter.
While in Muncie, she became an associate member of Gethsemane United Methodist
Church. She is survived by her 2 daughters; Greta Cope, of Parker City, IN, and
LuAnn Pelsor, of Nashville, IN; her sister, Elizabeth (Paul) McBride, of CA; 2
grandchildren, Kevin (Kenna) Cope, & Karrie (David) Osborne; 8 great
grandchildren; Micky , Noah, & Carolyn Hill, Josh, Leah, Katie, &
Jennifer Osborne, and Ashton Cope; 1 very special friend, Marcella Gulley.

Donald Walter Smith was born on June 13, 1918 to Lewis
Franklin Smith and Clara Selmeyer Smith in Versailles. He passed away on
Wednesday, Dec 18, 2007 at Shady Nook Care Center in Lawrenceburg. He attended
local schools, and graduated from high school in Dillsboro. On June 16, 1945 he
was married to Evelyn Vornheder, and they were blessed with 3 children; Philip,
Thomas, and Kimberly Sue. Don was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church
in Dillsboro, where he taught Sunday School for 50 years, and was a tenor in
the church choir. His family remembers him as a loving, Christian man,
undoubtedly the most Christian man they knew. He loved to talk and write about
what was in the Bible – he knew his Bible very well! He was a loving family
man; he truly loved his family more than anything else. He loved to tell
stories, and was the “Brownie Bear” fictional character. Don and Evelyn loved
to dance to big band music. He was a hard worker, he did construction work, and
was employed at Aurora Casket Company for many years. Donald is survived by his
wife, Evelyn; 2 sons; Phillip Luther Smith (Mary Ann) of Cincinnati, and Dr.
Thomas Brian Smith (Adrienne) Smith, of Penn; 1 daughter, Kimberly Sue (Bob)
Temple, of Bedford, KY; 7 grandchildren; Alexandra Smith, Lauren Smith, Garrett
Smith, Mattie Smith, Benjamin Smith, Quenton Temple, and Katie Temple. Don
& Evelyn also raised 5 nieces and nephews as their own children in their

Earl Edwin Scudder, age 84, of Dillsboro, passed away Wednesday, December 12,
2007 at the Waters of Dillsboro, Ross Manor. He was born Sept 5, 1923 in
Switzerland County to Edwin Stoops Scudder and Olive Slack Scudder. He graduated
from Patriot High School, and was employed at Seagrams and as a builder for a
period of time. In 1942, he joined the US Coast Guard and served time in
Greenland during WWII. In 1950 he was discharged from the Coast Guard, and came
back home to the Dillsboro area. That same year he married Nora LeRichie, whom
he met while in the service. For 37 years, Earl was employed at CG &E
(Cincinnati Gas & Electric) as an operator. Earl loved Reds baseball, Notre
Dame football, and Indiana basketball. During his wife's illness, he was a
wonderful help to her and took good care of her until she passed away on August
19, 1994. Because of poor health, Earl has spent the last 14 years at the Waters
of Dillsboro, Ross Manor. It was here that on Wednesday, Dec 12, 2007 he was
taken home to be with his Lord. He is survived by his 2 sons, Jay Fred Scudder
& his wife, Loretta, of Guilford, and Carroll Edwin Scudder & his wife,
Shannon; 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Carroll & Mavis
Scudder, Leland & Faye Scudder, and John Scudder; 1 sister, Bonnie &
Ralph Niles. He was preceded in death by 1 brother, Rennie Scudder, and 1

June Carol Scott, age 70, a resident of Moores Hill for many years, died Sunday,
Dec 9. 2007 at the Waters of Dillsboro, Ross Manor. She was born Sept 5, 1937 in
Cincinnati to Thomas William Scott and Darlis Hendren. June lived with her
parents on the family farm, and served as a caregiver to her mother in later
years. She formerly attended the Apostolic Church in Lawrenceburg. Surviving are

Glenn D. Marksberry, age 72, of Aurora, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2007 suddenly
at his home. Glenn was born June 4, 1935 in Aurora to Fredrick and Grace
Lientz Marksberry. He served his country in the US Army from 1957 to 1959.
On Jan. 17, 1965 he was married to Donna Owens, who survives. Glenn was well
known as the Pilot on the Aurora Ferry for many years. Following his
retirement, he worked with his friend, Joe Tandy, at Valley Enterprises,
selling groceries to towboats, and doing general maintenance work. He
absolutely loved his grandchildren, and doing anything outdoors. Glenn and
his wife were active members of Community United Methodist Church in
Aurora. Surviving besides his wife, Donna, are his 2 children; David
(Denise) Marksberry, of Richmond, VA, and Amy Marksberry, of Aurora; 1
brother, Don Marksberry, 3 grandchildren; Anthony & Kristian Spencer, and
Rhys Marksberry. He was preceded in death by his parents. A

Wilbur Fredrick Knigga, age 93, of Dillsboro, died Sunday morning, Nov 11,
2007 at the Waters of Dillsboro, Ross Manor. He was born Dec 22, 1913 at
Farmers Retreat to Arthur Knigga and Clara Vinup Knigga, and attended schools
in Dillsboro, graduating from Dillsboro High School in 1933. On Sept 12,
1942, he was married to Esther Scholle, and they lived on the farm near
Farmers Retreat their entire life. Wilbur was a former member of the Farmers
Mutual Aid Society Insurance, and the Men's Club of St. John's Lutheran
Church, of which he and Esther were lifelong members. In his spare time, he
enjoyed bowling in the Men's bowling league at church. Wilbur is survived by
his wife, Esther; his 2 children, Ken Knigga, of Dillsboro, and Carol
(William) Lovins, of Milan; 2 grandchildren, Tom Lovins and Denise Roark; 4
great grandchildren, Norman Roark, Tanner Roark, Casey Lovins, and
Cody Lovins; his sister, Hazel Pabst, of Cincinnati. Preceding him in
death was his brother, Denton Knigga, and a sister, Mildred Knigga.

Melvin Frazier, age 60, of Hammond, LA, formerly of Aurora, died Wednesday,
Nov 7, 2007 at Hospice House in Hammond. He was born in Milan, IN on June 16,
1947 to Charles Frazier and Carrie Lozier Frazier. He served his country in
the US Marines from 1966 to 1971, receiving several combat medals. Melvin was
employed as an electrician at REMC for several years. In 1985 he married his
wife, Sylvia, and she passed away in 2006.He was a member of the VFW in
Hammond, LA. Surviving is his daughter, Melissa Pryor, of Martinsville, IN;
his sister, Shirley Turville, of Trinity, Texas; 1 step son,
Larry Holbrook; 2 step daughters, Diane and Debbie Holbrook; a
nephew, Darrel Powers, and a niece, Peggy Garwood. He was preceded in death
by his parents, his wife, Sylvia, and one brother. A graveside service for

Kathryn L. Johnson, age 81, of Aurora, passed away Thursday morning, Nov 8,
2007 at the Waters of Dillsboro. She was born in Constance, KY on Sept 12,
1926, to Earl Souther and Mae Dolwick Souther. Kathryn was married to James
Johnson Jr. on March 8, 1947, and they were blessed with 6 children; James,
Leslie, Terry, Mary, Evelyn, and Larry. Kathryn and Jim were farmers in the
Aurora area for many years. They were active, faithful members of the
Alliance Church in Aurora their entire life. In 1978 Kathryn lost her
husband, Jim, and in 2001 her son, Larry Dale Johnson passed away. Kathryn
was a wonderful mother and farm wife. She enjoyed the cattle very much, and
her life was her children and grandchildren. She loved music and being
involved in the life of her church. Surviving are her 3 sons, James Johnson,
of Manchester, Leslie Johnson, of Wilmington, and Terry (Tricia)
Johnson, of Aurora; her 2 daughters, Mary Johnson, of Aurora, and
Evelyn Stevenson, of Aurora, and her daughter-in-law, Debbie Johnson,
of Aurora; 1 brother, Earl Everett Souther, and 1 son Grace Cooper.

Carolyn Ann Baker, age 69, of Farmers Retreat, Ind, died Thursday, Sept 27, 2007
at the Waters of Dillsboro. She was born Sept 1, 1938 in Milan, IN to Marwin and
Mable Taylor Luke. She graduated from Dillsboro High School in 1956, and
attended Cosmetology College for 1 year. In 1957, she married James Baker, and
they became lifelong residents of the Dillsboro/Farmers Retreat area. Besides
being a beautician, Carolyn made wedding dresses and wedding cakes for many
people in the area. She was also involved in a logging business with her
husband, and worked for 5 years for Congressman Lee Hamilton. Carolyn also was a
tour guide for Stewart Tours for several years. She was a member of St. John's
Lutheran Church in Farmers Retreat, and the quilting club of Lawrenceburg. She
was preceded in death by her husband, James Baker, in 1991, and her
parents.Surviving are her 4 children; Russell (Shannon) Baker, of LaGrange, IN,
and William (Rachel) Baker, of Dillsboro, Melissa (Jay) Walston, of Dillsboro,
and Pamela (Tom) Lewis, of Moores Hill, In; 12 grandchildren; 1 sister, Joanne

Wiley Joe Deckard, age 60, of Moores Hill, IN, died Friday, Sept 14, 2007 at his
home following a long illness. Joe was born Feb 24, 1947, in Covington, KY to
Carl & Elva Powers Deckard. He graduated from Rising Sun High School in
1965, and was employed at I & M for 36 yearss as a team leader. Joe married
Jacqueline Reamer on June 24, 1988. His work at I & M was a very big part of
his life; he worked in the control room which produced electricity. His
accomplishments at work were many, and he enjoyed his co-workers and supervisors
both as friends and as business associates. Joe loved the out-of-doors, the
horses at the farm, the squirrels, and the hummingbirds. His grandkids were very
important to him, and he loved to go to the creek with them and throw rocks and
play in the creek. Surviving is his wife and close friend, Jacqueline; 2 sons,
Joe Kevin Deckard, of Milan, and Rodney Deckard, of Rising Sun; 2 daughters,
Brandy Kochert and April Whkiteford, of Dillsboro; 12 grandchildren; 2 sisters,
Cheryl Hyde, and Carlee Wilson; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services

Mr. Albert Ohlmansiek, age 82, a lifelong Dillsboro area resident, until
moving to Greensburg, IND 2 years ago, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, Oct
7, 2007 at Decatur County Hospital in Greensburg. He was born in Dillsboro on
August 6, 1925 to Albert Ohlmansiek Sr. and Laura Housemeyer Ohlmansiek. He
graduated from Dillsboro High School, and served his country in the US Army
during WWII, being discharged in 1947. On Oct 8, 1955 he was united in
marriage witn Annabelle Martin, and they were blessed with 2 daughters, Becky
and Marsha. Albert was employed at I & M in Lawrenceburg for a period of
time before purchasing his parents farm south of Dillsboro. He farmed until
2005, when he and Annabelle retired and moved to Greensburg. He also
drove school bus for a long period of time for Dillsboro High School,
and later on for the Dillsboro School System. He and his wife were
active members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Dillsboro for many years,
and were members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Greensburg the 2
years they lived in Greensburg. Surviving is his wife, Annabelle;
2 daughters, Becky (Steve) Starek, of Carmel, Ind, and Marsha Ohlmansiek,
of Greensburg; 2 step grandchildren, Jon & Greg Starek; 1 sister, Verna
Schuette, of Farmers Retreat; and 1 aunt, Mildred Schnanholt, of Dillsboro.

Minnie Ann Jewett, age 106, of Dillsboro, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2007 at Ripley
Crossing in Milan. She was born on Feb. 26, 1901 in Friendship, IN, to Henry
Damon and Elizabeth Fayne Damon. On Dec. 22, 1922, she married Charles Wilson
Jewett, and he died on Dec. 14, 1971. Her late husband was a State Senator in
the 1940's. Minnie and Charles were very active in Dillsboro, owning a dry
goods, grocery, and furniture store. Minnie was an active member of Hopewell
Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School; she also was a member of the
Dillsboro American Legion Auxillary. Surviving are both her nephew and her
niece; Judy Goodman, and Larry (Dorothy) Damon. Funeral services will be

Doris A. Biddle, age 93, passed aways
late Tuesday evening, July 31st, 2007 at her residence, The Waters
of Dillsboro. Doris was born July 12, 1914 in Okeana, Ohio, the
daughter of Douglas Hiler and Grace Smithe Hiler. On January 27,
1933. She was married to Earl D. Biddle and he preceded her in death
on March 14, 1990. Doris was a homeaker and enjoyed taking care
of her home and her family. She enjoyed fishing and her children
have fond memories of going fishing with her after church on Sundays
when they wre small. She was an excellent cook and in the 1960's
she cooked at the restaurant and tavern in Friendship. In her later
years Doris enjoyed being a member of the 50 plus club in Dillsboro
and of the village senior citizens. For much of her life she was
an active member of the Bear Creek Baptist Church in Friendship,
In. She is survived by her two daurghters; Janet (Charles) Bressert,
of Versailles and Susan (Charles) Huddleston, of Versailles; one
son Joe (Mary) Biddle, of Denver, Co; one daughter-in-law, Betty
Biddle, the widow of her late son, David D. Biddle. Also surviving
are her eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Earl; two sons, Douglas, who died
in infancy, and David B. Biddle; her grandson, David W. Biddle,
two brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be Saturday,
August 4th, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. from Ulrich-Filter-DeVries Funeral
Home in Dillsboro. Interment Maple Gorve Cemetery, Brookville. Visitation
at the funeral home will by Friday from 5-8 p.m. Memorials may be
given to Dearborn County Cancer Fund, or a charity of one's choice.
Mr. Robert D. Frey, 71, of
Dillsboro, formerly of Moores Hill, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2007 at the
Waters of Dillsboro. He was born on November 15, 1935 at Parkersburg, West
Virginia the son of Harry and Ethel Gabbard Frey. As a young man he moved to
this area and on February 9, 1954 he was married to Sondra Moehring. From 1953
to 1956 he served his country in the US Army working as a cook. He was an avid
hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors. Survivors include his wife Sondra;
sons Robert (Natalie) Frey, Jr. of Wyoming and Darvin (Melissa) Frey of
Beattyville, Kentucky; one daughter Brenda (Bruce) Roeder of Dillsboro; several
grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one step-brother Curtis Rattlif. He was
preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Tracy Brown. Funeral services
will be Wednesday, August 1st at 11am at the Ulrich-Filter-Devries
Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Burial will be in the South Sparta Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5pm to 8pm. Memorials may be given to Charlie
McKinley’s ministry.
Mr. Donald W. Stevens, age 56, of Yorkville,
died Thursday July 26, 2007 at his home following a long illness.
Don was born in Milan, In. on Oct. 20, 1950 to William Stevens
and Eleanor Snyder Stevens. Don graduated from Dillsoboro High School
in 1968 and Western Kentucky University in 1972. In 1972 he
was employed for many years as an auditor for the U.S. Dept. of
Agriculture. He and Bev were active members of Bethlehem Lutheran
Chursh in Greendale. Don loved to hunt and fish and he very much
enjoyed keeping up with high school, college, and neighborhood
friends. Don was big on NASCAR racing and one of his most prized
possessions is a #3 cap signed by Dale Earnhart. His most favorite
mode of transportation was his 1954 Chevrolet pickup truck. Besides
his wife, Don is survived by one son, Christopher Stevens, of Lawrenceburg;
one sister, Susan (Kenneth) Cowan of Arkansas. He was preceded in
death by his parents. Funeral services will be Monday, July 30,
2007. at 11:00 a.m. from Trinity Lutheran Church in Dillsboro. Interment
will be in Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-8

Betty J. Davies, age81, of Dillsboro,
died Friday July 6, 2007 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood,
KY. She was born Feb 13, 1926 in Switzerland County, IN, the daughter
of John Perkins and Jessie Leep Perkins. Following high school,
she attended college for I year to become a nurse's aid. In 1941
she married Denver F. Davies, and he preceded her in death on August
1, 2000. Betty was employed for several years at the Franklin Masonic
Home as a nurse's aid. She was an active member of Bear Creek Baptist
Church in Friendship. Betty was known as a caregiver and a helping
person to anyone who asked for her help. She is survived by 1 son,
Denver (Carol) Lynn Davies, of Dillslboro; 7 grandchildren, John,
Daren, Brett, Belinda, Terri, Bonnie, and Sheana; 1 brother, John
Perkins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband,
Denver, and 1 son, John Franklin Davies. Visitation and Funeral
Services will be Monday at the Ulrich-FilterDeVries Funeral Home
for close friends and family only. Interment will follow at St.
Peter Lutheran Cemetery at Glean. Memorials may be given to the
American Cancer Society.
Esther G. Benning, age 99, of Farmers Retreat,
died Sunday, July 1, 2007 at the Waters of Dillsboro Manor. She
was born Feb 12, 1908 in Caesar Creek Twp, the daughter of William
Grelle and Anna Hueseman Grelle. She was a retired Secretary for
Johnson Electric in Cincinnati and retired from IRS. In 1942 she
married Harland Benning, and he preceded her in death in 1998. Surviving
are 2 sons, Dean William Benning aod Richard Allen (Vera) Benning,
both of Farmers Retreat; 6 grandchildren, Heather Ann Benning Rump,
Michael Lawhorn, Betl Weaver, Pamela Davies, Amy Fryman, and Kimberly
Wesemann; 11 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 6, 2007 at 11 :00 am. from

Mrs. Dolly J. Holland, 81, of Canaan died Sunday, June 24, 2007 at her home. She
was born January 15, 1926 at Milan to Thomas and Tena Schmaltz Gordon. On July
5, 1946 Dolly was united in marriage to Houston D. Holland and they have been
lifelong area residents. She was a retired homemaker and a member of the Church
of God. She enjoyed traveling to the Feast of Tabernacles for her church and
working in her garden. Surviving is her husband Houston, children Mike (Debbie)
Holland of Dillsboro, Joyce Ann Holland of Batesville, Stephen (Kathleen)
Holland of Texas, Mark (Janet) Holland of Benham, Randy (Kathy) Holland of
Canaan, and Tim Holland of Madison; 9 grandchildren; three brothers, Albert,
Jerry, and Thomas Gordon; one sister, Betty Grace. She was preceded in death by
her parents and one brother. Funeral services will be held at 11am Wednesday at
the Ulrich-Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Burial will be in the
Oakdale Cemetery at Dillsboro. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5pm to 8pm.

Helen E.
Filter, age 91,
of
Cincinnati, died Monday, June 18, 2007 at
West
Park Retirement Village in Cincinnati. She was born in
Cincinnati on May 25, 1916 to Elmer Henschen and Laura
Lanvermeyer Henschen. Following her high school, she
was married to Otto Filter, and they made their home
in Cincinnati. Helen was a long time member of
Concordia Lutheran Church in Cincinnati, and was
active in the church dinners and in entertaining the
pastors and their families with meals in her home. She
was also a very talented seamstress, doing alterations
and sewing dresses for Mariannes Bridal Shop for many
years. Helen and Otto were blessed with four children
who survive; Paul (Karen) Filter, of Dillsboro, IN,
Timothy (Nancy) Filter, Fay (Milton K.) Blersch, and
Lois (Steve) Oyler, all of Cincinnati; 8
grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. . Funeral
services will be Friday at 10:30 am from Concordia
Lutheran Church, 1133 Clifton Hills Ave, Cincinnati.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the

Cincinnati.
Mr. Paul Edward Leive, age
94, of Dillsboro, died early Wednesday
morning, June 7, 2007 at Waters of Dillsboro. He
was born August 10, 1912 in Dillsboro to Edward
Leive and Elizabeth Graver Leive, and graduated in
1931 from Dillsboro High School. He worked on the
family farm for several years before becoming
employed at Cocharan Chair Company. In 1942, he
was drafted into the US Army during WWII.
Mr. Leive
had a very distinguished military career for 3
years, receiving 3 bronze stars, the purple heart,
and being a POW for a time. Upon his return from
the Army, Mr. Leive was employed at Jim’s Radio
Service, doing wiring and insulating houses. In
1968 he became employed at Dearborn Mills, and
eventually became part owner of the business. In
1983 he retired and worked part time for a few
years. Mr. Leive was a quiet , studious person,
who was very well read, especially in the Bible.
He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran
Church in Dillsboro. He leaves to survive several
nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were
his parents, 2 sisters, and 1 brother. Funeral
services will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. from Trinity
Lutheran Church in Dillsboro. Friends may call one
hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials
may be given to the Trinity Student Aid Fund or to
the Dillsboro Emergency Unit.
Robert L. Hummel, 63, of
Moores Hill passed
away Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at his home with his
family by his side. Robert was born October 14,
1943 in Cincinnati the son of William and Rosella
Schwab Hummel. On October 20, 1962 he was united
in marriage to Charlotte Fehling and they were
blessed with three children, Andy, Kathy, and
Christie. They resided in the Dillsboro/Moores
Hill area most of their life while Robert was
employed as a facility engineer at Anchor Glass.
Robert was a devoted husband, father, and friend
to many and enjoyed his golf game very much. His
family was important to him and he enjoyed working
around his property and keeping it up. He and
Charlotte enjoyed their home in Florida very much.
The last while has not been easy as Robert
suffered with cancer at his home in both Florida
and Moores Hill. Early on Tuesday morning, May 29,
2007 Robert was taken from us with his family by
his side at his home in Moores Hill. He leaves to
mourn his passing his wife Charlotte; son Andy
Hummel and his wife Beth of Moores Hill; daughters
Kathy Seymour of Aurora and Christie Spaulding and
her husband Todd of Strongsville, Ohio;
grandchildren Robby and Tara Tiettmeyer, Tyler and
Hayden Hummel, and Taylor and Zachary Spaulding;
three brothers Bill, George, and Joe Hummel. He
was preceded in death by his parents. A graveside
service to honor his memory will be Saturday at
11am at Oakdale Cemetery with a luncheon follow at
the Dillsboro Civic Club. Memorials may be given
to the Hospice of Dearborn County, Hospice of
Florida, or the Dillsboro Emergency Unit.
Alfred A. Schmidt, 78, of
Aurora passed away Tuesday May 29, 2007 at the
Woodland Hills Nursing Center in Lawrenceburg. He
was born in Aurora on December 29, 1928 the son of
Andrew and Martha Richards Schmidt. He attended
Purdue University School of Pharmacy until he
joined the US Air Force in 1951. He served during
the Korean War for 4 years working as a pharmacist
until his discharge in 1955. Upon his discharge
from the Air Force he worked as a tax accountant
for the IRS for many years. He was the “blind man”
in the St. John’s Passion play for 10 years and
enjoyed being in the arts. He is survived by
several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will

Winifred “Winnie” J.
Sidebottom, age 79, of Dillsboro, died
Thursday, April 19, 2007 at her residence. She was
born July 5, 1927 in Kingston On Thames, Surrey,
England, to Harry Trussler and Annie Louise Turner
Trussler.
Winnie met
a young man during WWII in England named Russell
L. Sidebottom, and they were married on July 28,
1946. Her late husband was in the service for 20
years, and they moved to the United States after
their marriage. Winnie and Russell were blessed
with
4
children;
Gary, Teresa, Rebecca, and Linda. Winnie enjoyed
being a homemaker, and loved plants and gardening.
On July 2, 1985 her husband, Russell passed away.
For the past 17 years, Winnie and Arnold Rump, a
friend who lost his wife, have been companions and
friends. Winnie also
lost
2 of her
daughters, Rebecca Greenwell and Linda Anderson.
Also preceding her in death was her sister, Olive
Topple and 2 brothers, Reginald and Ron Trussler.
She leaves behind her close friend, Arnold Rump;
her son, Gary Sidebottom; of Burlington, KY; and
her daughter, Teresa (Mike) Taylor, of Overland
Park, Kansas; 12 grandchildren and 27 great
grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday ,
April 23, 2007 at 11 a.m. from
Ulrich-Filter-DeVries Funeral Home. Interment will
be in Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral

Vicki J. Luhrsen, age 51, of
Aurora, died Sunday,
April 8, 2007 at Dearborn County Hospital in
Lawrenceburg.
Vicki was
born August 31, 1955 in Batesville, IN to John and
Alberta Daugherty Luhrsen
Sr.
She
attended and graduated from local schools, and
then went to Ball State University, where she
graduated with a degree in education. She even
went back and received her Masters Degree!
Vicki was
a person who loved kids and teaching, and taught
at Manchester School for 29 years. She mostly
taught
3rd
grade, however she had her
stints in
4th
grade, and even kindergarten.
She loved the
3rd
graders, and they certainly
loved her! Besides teaching, Vicki served her
profession as a member of South Dearborn Education
Assoc, where she currently was serving as
President. She also was active in the Indiana
State Teachers Assoc, and the NEA, National
Education Assoc. Every year she enjoyed going to
the NEA conventions in cities around the country.
In her spare time she loved to crochet, and spent
as much time with her 5 nieces and nephews and 11
grand nieces and nephews as she possibly
could.
All 16 of
them were like her own kids! Vicki was a member of
First Baptist Church in Aurora. She leaves behind
her mother, Alberta Luhrsen; her 2 brothers, John
& Roger Luhrsen; and her sister, Phyllis Kay
Johnson. She was preceded in death by her father,
John Luhrsen, Sr. Memorial Visitation will be held
Wednesday, April 11, 2007 from 3-7 p.m. at
Ulrich-Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro.

Mrs. Lavonia R. Mead, age
91, of Aurora, died Monday, March 26, 2007 at
Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg. She was
born Sept 3, 1915 in Aurora to Royal Canfield and
Anna Meyer
Canfield.
She
attended
schools
in Aurora,
and in 1949 she was married to Myron Mead. He
passed away in 1965.Lavonia raised 3 children by
herself, and was a hard worker. In her earlier
years, she worked at the chair factory in Aurora.
Lavonia was a member and church organist at the
Church of the Nazarene in Rising Sun for many
years. In later years, she sold Avon products and
enjoyed that very much. She had 2 main priorities
in life; getting her hair done on Saturday and
playing the organ at church on Sunday. She is
survived by 2 sons; Noel and his wife, Eillen
Houze, and Gaylord, and his wife, Carole House,
both of Aurora; 1 daughter, Doris and her husband,
Lawrence Kinnett, of Aurora; 1 step daughter,
Dorothy Handy, of Fairfield, Ohio; 1 brother,
Glenn Canfield; 6 grandchildren; and
9 great
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 1
sister, Audrey; and her daughter, Sharon Dyer, in
1988. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 29,

Earl M. Lawson, age 88, of Cynthiana, KY, formerly
of Dillsboro, IN, died Friday, March 16, 2007
in Cynthiana. In 1944 he married Helen
Stager, and she passed away in 2000. He was
employed at GM as an assembler and order clerk for
many years, and was a WWII Veteran of the US
Army. He was the first soldier from Kentucky
to return from WWII. Mr. Lawson was a 52
year member of Post 19, American Legion in Ft.
Thomas, KY. Surviving is his daughter, Nancy
(Alan) Edwards, of Sweetwater, TN; 2 brothers;
Robert Lawson and Douglas Mc Arthur Lawson; 1
granddaughter, Elizabeth Cypher, and 1 great
grandson, Corey. Funeral services will be 12

Martha A. Schulenburg, age 98, of Farmers Retreat, died Sunday, March 11, 2007
at ShadyNook Care Center in Lawrenceburg. She was born Nov
21, 1908 in Ripley
County to H. William
Schulenburg and Emma Knollman Schulenburg. Martha lived on a farm her entire
life in Farmers Retreat, and in addition to helping on the farm, she worked as a
waitress in restaurants in Dillsboro. She was a very active member of St. John’s
Lutheran Church, and for many years was the
organist. She enjoyed quilting and sewing. She is survived by 1 nephew and 6
nieces, and was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister. Funeral services
will be Sunday, March 18, 2007 at 3 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Farmers Retreat. Visitation will
be 1 hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Farmers Retreat. Memorials may
be given to the church memorial fund.

Denver Jewett, age 53, of Dillsboro, died
Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at Hospice of Cincinnati following a long illness. He
was born March 18, 1953 in Milan, the son of Thomas and Dorothy Block
Jewett. Following graduation from high school, he enlisted in the US Air Force,
serving 4 years until a knee injury forced him to take an honorable discharge.
Denver was
employed in the Dillsboro area, and was very active in the American Legion Post
in Dillsboro. He cooked at Legion dinners, little league dinners, and worked
military funerals. He loved his 2 grandsons, and was good to them. Denver was a member of the
Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Dillsboro. Surviving are his parents; Tom &
Dot Jewett, of Dillsboro; 1 son, Shane, & his wife Dana, of Moores Hill; 2
grand children; Cory f& Tristan; 1 brother, Keith (Beth) Jewett, of
Okeana, Ohio; 2
sisters, Karen (Gary) Kirkpatrick, of
Lawrenceburg, and Beth (Robert) Strassell, of Milan. Funeral services will be Friday at 11

Mrs. Viola L. Mollman, age 87, of Aurora
and Rising Sun, IN, died Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Dearborn County
Hospital. She was born March 6, 1920 in Dearborn County, the daughter
of John P. Probst and Anna Hornig Probst. She graduated from Aurora
High School, class of 1949, after going back to school later in
life. Viola was a lifelong area resident, and on Aug 15, 1940 she
married Kenneth Mollman at Walton, KY. He preceded her in death
on Feb 24, 1971. Viola was a volunteer in Girl Scouting for 24 years,
and was a member of the OES Lodge for 50 years. She was a member
of the Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her 3 daughters; Chandra
Mattingly, of Rising Sun, IN, Kay Wind, of Ravenna, OH, and Lea
Mollman, of Youngstown, OH; 3 step sons; Lee Mollman, of Piqua,
OH, Don Mollman, of Mason, OH, and Jerry Mollman, of Columbus, OH;
1 brother, John P. Probst Jr., of Aurora; 1 sister, Mary Ann Warren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanna Lynn, on Oct
2, 1967. Visitation will be Thursday, March 15, 2007 from 10 to
11 a.m. at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home, Aurora, followed by a memorial
service at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Aurora.
Bonnie Louise Beatty age
44 was born on Oct 2, 1962 in Lawrenceburg
to Cecil and Verna Lakker Beatty. She graduated in the second
graduating class of the new South Dearborn High School in1980.
Bonnie was employed at the Waters of Dillsboro for 25 years, working
in dietary, housekeeping , and finally as housekeeping manager.
She loved bookkeeping and income tax work, and had many hobbies.
Teddy Bears were an important part of her life, she loved collecting
them, along with Longabergar baskets. She absolutely loved her 3
cats, Sugar Bear, Teddy Bear, and Fuzzy Wuzzy! She also loved Boyd’s
Bears, and collected them. This past year her family took her on
a trip to Pigeon Forge and the Smokey Mountains, and she just had
to go further into N. Carolina so she could say she was in another
state! Bonnie was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Bonnie has been ill for some time, and on Saturday morning, March
10, 2007 with her family at her side, she passed away and went home
to the Lord . Surviving is her mother, Verna Beatty, and her sister,
Karen Beatty; her Aunts & Uncles, Virgil & Donna Laaker,
and Bill & Esther Goldfuss, also several cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her father in July of 1988. Funeral
services will be Tuesday, March 11, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church
in Dillsboro. Interment is in Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call

Annette Mae Heffelfinger, age 55,
passed away Tuesday morning, March 6, 2007 at Good Samaritan Hospital
in Cincinnati. Annette was born in Milan, Indiana on July
13, 1951 to John and Hilda Sims Anderson. In 1970 she was married
to Larry Lee Heffelfinger, and since he was a career man in the
military, she was able to do what she really loved, and that was
travel. Annette and Larry lived in Germany, California, Washington
State, and Virginia. Annette was a family person, she absolutely
loved family gatherings and parties. Larry and Annette were blessed
with 2 children, Tony and Adam. They were the proud grandparents
of 3 grandchildren; Torri, Lybbi, and Rylli. They were absolutely
spoiled by Annette! Very suddenly, following surgery at Good Samaritan
Hospital, on March 6, 2007, Annette was taken from us. She leaves
behind her 2 sons and daughter-in-law, Tony (Amy) and Adam Heffelfinger,
her 3 grandchildren, and 4 brothers; John & Tommy Anderson,
and Bill & Mike Stevens. Her husband, Larry, preceded her in
death in 2004. her family will miss her enthusiasm for life, and
they know they will see her again. Funeral services will be Saturday,
March 10, 2007 at Ulrich-Filter-DeVries Funeral Home, at 11

Martha McClellan,
age 62, passed away Wed, February 28, 2007 at 11:45 a.m. at
her home following a brief illness. Martha was born July 29, 1944
in Hazard, Ky to Wallace & June Cornett. She has lived most
of her life in the Dillsboro/North Vernon area. In September
of 1963 she was married to Lowell McClellan, and to this union 2
children were born, Ed & Vicky. For many years, Martha worked
in the Dietary Dept at Muscatutuck State Hospital. She loved her
family and her home, and collected Angels. She loved to sew and
be with her family and friends. Martha was a member of Greendale
Church of Christ. She leaves behind her loving husband, Lowell;
her 2 children, Ed (Prim) Mc Clellan and Vicky (Charles) Mc
Daniel; 3 grandchildren, Levi McDaniel, Megan McDaniel, and Christopher
McClellan, and 1 great grand child. Also surviving are her
brothers and sisters; John “Buck” Cornett, Coy Cornett, Margaret
Harney, and Brenda Atkins, all of Viper, KY. She was preceded in
death by her father and mother. Her family is saddened by their
loss, however they are grateful that she did not have to suffer
a longer time with her illness. Funeral services will be Saturday,
March 3, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. from Ullrich-Filter-DeVries Funeral
Home in Dillsboro. Visitation will be Friday, March 2, 2007 from

Irene Rumph, age 97, passed away
early Saturday morning, Feb 10, 2007 at Margaret Mary Hospital Batesville.
She was born August 16, 1909 in Ohio County to J. Henry Knigga
and Louise Nolker. Irene lived on a farm as a child, and has many
fond memories of ice skating before school and her mother hanging
out a red cloth telling her it was time to go to school. She came
from a large family, 5 girls and 1 boy. They worked hard on the
farm, but had many good times as well. Irene was fortunate to graduate
from Indiana State Univ in Terre Haute and became a teacher. She
started out in a 1 room school house in Clayback, New Hope, and
Murray Branch, eventually teaching in Rising Sun and for many years
in Dillslboro. On April 22,1941 she married Loran F.
Rumph and they were blessed with one daughter, Karen. Irene was
very involved with her church, St. Peters Ev. Lutheran Church in
Bear Branch, which she was a lifelong member. She was also
involved with “Internationally Yours”, an organization whose members
corresponded with people of other countries; was a member of Ind
Retired Teachers Assoc, and loved sewing, and visiting with her
friends. Irene spent her last years at Manderley Care Center
in Osgood, where she had many fiends. Her family, although small,
loved her and she loved them. They know she is with her Lord and
Savior now and they will see her soon.
Charles A. (Sonny) Yeary, age 68, of Dillsboro, Ind.,
died suddenly Sunday, February 4, 2007, at Dearborn Co. Hospital in
Lawrenceburg, Ind. He was born Feb. 18, 1938 in Big Stone Gap, VA. He was
the son of the late Jess Yeary and the late Nancy (Davis) Yeary. On July 18,
1959 he married Pat Dunn, who survives. Charles was employed at Alton Box
Board for many years and retired in 1993 due to poor health. Surviving
besides his wife Pat, are 2 children; Charles (Connie) Yeary, of Dillsboro,
and Jackie (Jim) Woll, of Cincinnati;4 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Carl Yeary
and Kyle Yeary, both of Tenn.; 3 sisters, Ann Kelly, Christine Johnson, and
Rose Blanton, all of Virginia. Arrangements are being handled by Ulrich Filter

Dale E. Niebrugge, age 55, of Aurora, Ind., died Sunday,
January 14, 2007, at Dearborn Co. Hospital in Lawrenceburg, Ind. Dale was
a self employed trucker. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the
Sons of the Legion, and the Eagles of Aurora. He was the son of the late
Charles Niebrugge and Helen (Westmeyer) Niebrugge. Surviving is his wife
Kathy Niebrugge; one daughter, Jeanna (Niebrugge) Little of Ohio, one
son, Brian Niebrugge of Illinois, two sisters, Janet Gilbert and Barbara
Lade, one brother, Fred Niebrugge,. and six grandchildren. Funeral
services will be held Friday , Jan 19, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. from

Robert John Gall, age 67, of Moores Hill,
Ind., died Saturday, December 30, 2006, at Dearborn County Hospital
in Lawrenceburg, Ind. He was in the class of 1957 in
the Dillsboro High School. Robert was employed by Stedmans
Foundry for 9 years and Fermco - Fernald for 37 years,
as senior accountant.
He was a member and treasure of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was the son
of the late Raymond W. Gall Sr. and the late Mildred (Maley) Gall.
He is survived by his wife A. Louise (Homann) Gall; Two
Sons; Daniel W. Gall of Dillsboro, Ind. and Michael
A. Gall of Milan, Ind., one brother, Raymond W. Gall,
Jr. of Hudson, Fla. and three grandchildren, Ryan, Megan, and Julia.

Crystal (Mookie) Sowards, age 24, of Versailles, Ind,
died Monday, Christmas Day at University Hospital in Cincinnati. She was born
August 16, 1982 in Lawrenceburg, Ky to Roger A. Sowards and Melinda R. Hyatt
Sowards. Crystal graduated in 2001 from South Ripley High School, and loved
the Kentucky Wildcats. She was employed for a period of time at the Friendship
Bar & Grill as a cook. Crystal was preceded in death by her father, Roger
A. Sowards. She is survived by her mother, Melinda R. (Hyatt) Sowards and
special friend Carl Brown, of Friendship, Ind; her brother, Raymond G. Sowards,
of Friendship; her maternal grandfather, Gene Hyatt, of Dillsboro; and her
paternal grandmother, Eleanorl Sowards, of Ross, Ohio; her uncle, Michael Hyatt,
of Dillsboro. Also preceding her in death was her maternal grandmother, Rose
Hyatt, and her paternal grandfather, Paul Sowards. Funeral services will be

Robert Wickizer, age 84, of Dillsboro, Ind., died
Thursday, December 21, 2006, at Waters of Dillsboro Manor in Dillsboro,
Ind. He was born Feb 11, 1922 in Pittston, PA , and moved to this area as
a young man. On Sept 30, 1945 he was married to Grace Folsom, who survives.
He was a WWII Veteran , and was retired from Stedman Foundry in Aurora in
1976. He was then employed by Dillsboro Manor in maintinance, retiring in
1987. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Farmers Retreat.
Robert was a former member of the school board of Dearborn Schools, a
former member of the board of Ind. Vocational School, and a former trustee
of Ceasar Creek Twp for 8 years. Surviving is his wife, Grace Wickizer; 1
son, Richard Lee Wickizer, of Osgood, Ind; 2 daughters, Roberta J. Luke
and Brenda S. Thayer, both of Dillsboro; 2 brothers, Donald Wickizer, of
Fleetville, PA, and John Wickizer, of Cinnaminson, NJ; 1 sister, Grace
Erickson, of Westland, MI; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 4 brothers; his son-in-law,
James Thayer, in 2002. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, Dec 27, 2006
at 11:00 a.m. from Ste. John's Lutheran Church in Farmers Retreat.
Interment will be in St. Johns Cemetery in Farmers Retreat. Visitation

Luke, age 68, of Dillsboro, Ind., died Saturday, November 25,
2006, at Dearborn Co. Hospital in Lawrenceburg, Ind. Mr. Luke
was employed by the Carpenter Union and was a volunteer fireman
for the Dillsboro Fire Department. He enjoyed working with
his wife in the catering business for five years. Arthur was
a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Farmers Retreat
IN. and did repair work at the church. He loved his neighbors,
family, and new Kabota garden tractor. .He was the son of the late
Walter Luke and the late Ruth (Niederbaumer) Luke. He
is survived by his wife Annis (Burlage) Luke; Twodaughters,Sharon
(Clint) Pollard of Aurora, Ind., and Kimberly (Jeremy) Grimes

September 25, 2006, at St. Lukes Hospital East in Fort Thomas, Ky.
Mary was a homemaker. She was the daughter of
Rossie Jefferies and Stella (Stewart) Jefferies, who are no longer
living. She is survived by her husband Omer P. Wehmeyer; one daughter;
Linda Wehmeyer of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; two sons, Danny Wehmeyer
of New Smyran Beach, Fla. and Jim Wehmeyer of Rising Sun, Ind.;
one sister, Mickey Heffelmire of Rising Sun, Ind.; two brothers;
David Jefferies and Paul Jefferies; seven grandchildren and

Janice Elaine Slater, age 70, of Cincinnati,
Ohio, died Monday, September 25, 2006, while visiting her brother,
John, in Puyallap, Wash. She was the daughter of the late
Milton Slater and Thelma (Cross) Slater, who survives. She is
also survived
by her two brothers; James M. Slater of Ledyard, Conn.,
and John F. Slater of Puyallap, Wash. She was born in
Milan on September 14, 1936 and went on to graduate from Hanover
College in 1958. She began her teaching career in Tipton,
IN., and then went on to the Oak Hills school district in Cincinnati
where she remained until her retirement in 1991. Janice continued
her work with others in the community for the preservation of Carnegie
Hall in Moores Hill, In. and served as president of Carnegie Historic
Landmarks Preservation Society for many years before giving that
up in 2005. She will be missed by her family and her numerous
friends and will be remembered as a very giving and caring person.
Visitation will be between 2 and 3 p.m. and a service at 3:00 p.m. Sunday
Oct. 1st at the Methodist Church. Memorials may be sent to Carnegie.

Rosemary “Rosey” Watkins, age 88, of Aurora,
and one of its most prominent citizens, passed away Saturday, Sept
16, 2006 at her home following a brief illness. Rosey was born Oct
30, 1917 in Pleasantville, IN to Raymond and Maude Walters McCammon.
A long time resident of Dearborn County, she was one of the
fortunate people in her era to attend college and even obtain a
Masters Degree. She graduated with a Bachelors degree from Indiana
State and a Masters of Science from Indiana State Univ. In 1940
she was married to Ralph E. Watkins, who passed away on Sept 11,
1994. A dedicated teacher, Rosemary taught high school at Carlyle,
Fulton, Wadina, and Reynolds schools. For 25 years, she taught 4th
thru 8th grade at Aurora, Moores Hill, and Willmington schools in
Dearborn County. She was past president and a member of Delta Kappa
Gamma Sorority, teachers group; a member and past President of Phi
Beta Psi, associate chapter; a member and past Regent of the D.A.R.
and a member and past Guardian of Jobs Daughters. Rosemary was an
active member of the Eastern Star, having served as past Worthy
Matron. One of her greatest interests, however, was 4H, where she
served as a leader for over 25 years, and was a former president
of the Dearborn County 4H Fair Board. Her awards were many; she
received the Honorary Achievement Award for the Indiana Assoc. of
County and District Fairs; a 50 year award from the Indiana Extension
Homemakers Assoc., and she was named Dearborn County Citizen
of the Year in 1997. Rosemary was very active in her church, Mt.
Sinai United Methodist Church of Aurora, and held many leadership
offices. Surviving are her 3 daughters; Marjorie Farrer, of
N. Carolina, Betty Watkins, of Texas, and Nancy Truex, of
Fishers, IN; 4 grandchildren; John, Ryan, Anne, and Sarah; 1 brother,
Nelson McCammon, of Wisc; 3 sisters, Esther Schinbeckler, of
Columbia City, IN, Ann Jane Murray, of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Ruth Adkins,

died Saturday, September 9, 2006, at University Hospital in Cincinnati,
Ohio. Miriam was a homemaker and was a Co-owner, with her husband. of
S.P. Designs-Dillsboro, IN, for 27 years. She was a Methodist. .She was
the daughter of the late William Mc Ilvian and the late Hilda (Tomlinson) Mc
Ilvian. She is survived by her husband Robert W. Scheiner; One
Daughter, Kimberly Sue Dolan of Miami Heights, Ohio; Two Sons, Robert
E. Scheiner of Mason, Ohio, and Matthew A. Scheiner of Rushville,

Bob Clark, age 61, of Dillsboro, Ind., died Monday,
August 7, 2006, at his residence in Dillsboro, Ind. Bob was employed by
Union Local #1142. He was in the National Muzzleloaders Rifle
Assoc. and enjoyed camping at Friendship. He operated a stand with
his wife, Marty,where they sold items at Friendship during the shoots.

Elder, Treasurer, and chior member. She was the president
of the PTA in Dillsboro and the president of the Senior Citizens
Club. She was an active member of the Dillsboro Bridge
Clubs.She was the daughter of the late Louis Ruhlman and the
late Ella (Johnston) Ruhlman. She is survived
by her son, Tom (Dot) Jewett of Dillsboro, Ind.,
five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and four

Philip Lee Deamron, age 82,of Dillsboro,
Ind., died Saturday, July 22, 2006, at Dearborn Co. Hospital
in Lawrenceburg, Ind. He is the son of the Dee Clifford Deamron
and the late Tinnie (Garriott) Deamron. Mr. Deamron was an independent
trucker who delivered gas and fuel oil for Phillip 66 for 47 years.He
also farmed several acres at the family farm. He was a member of
the Hosanna Assembly of God Church. He is survived by his wife Jean
Deamron, three daughters; Debbie (Rod) Hamilton of Dillsboro, Ind.,
Melody Richardson of Dillsboro, Ind. and Pamela (David) Kitchell

Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio He was employed by Texas Gas
Transmission as Laborer. He played fiddles and had several in his
collection. He was the son of the late Robert Scott and the late
Ethel (Meyer) Scott. He is also survived by his wife Mary (Elder)

Mr. Stanley E. Scmidt, age 70, of Dillsboro,
passed away Saturday morning, July 15, 2006 at Dillsboro Manor in
Dillsboro, IN. He was born in Center Twp. Iowa on November 1, 1935.
He served his country for several years in the United States Air
Force as a Licensed Practical Nurse. His service time included
several years during the Viet Nam Conflict. He was married to Toshiko
Schmidt, and she passed away several years ago. He is survived by
his daughter, Debra Graver, of Dillsboro, and 2 grandchildren. He
was alsot preceded in deathe by his parents, and 2 brothers, Emil
and Cletus. Visitation will be at Ulrich-Filter Funeral Home
Monday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. and the graveside service will be
at Oakdale Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to SE Ind.

Dorothea Margaret (Schwing) Ross was
born on October 19, 1918 in Aurora, IN. age 87, of Dillsboro,
Ind., died Friday, July 14, 2006, at Dearborn County Hospital in
Lawrenceburg, Ind. She was known as "Dottie".
Dottie was the daughter of Reverend Adam and Elfeldea Littell
Schwing. Her brothers Charles and George and sister Ruth preceded
her in death. Dottie graduated from Lawrenceburg High School in
1936. She was married to Paul Brown Deaton in 1938. This
union resulted in the birth of 5 children. Paul died
in 1946. Dottie met a gentleman, Dellas Milliken Ross, who
became her life’s companion and "Dad" to the children
through 59 years of marriage. They made their 59 years an
adventure by moving to Dillsboro in 1948, where she shared
in building and operating the Dottie Dell Dress Shop for 11 years,
creating and administering Dillsboro and Ross Manors for 20 years.
Operating the White Crane Fitness Center for several years
and creating the Ross Foundation for Dillsboro. In a loving
and caring environment, she helped raise her 5 children and care
for several family members. Dottie was a member of Emanuel Lutheran
Church, Greendale and a Sparrow Club Member of Robert Schuler's
Crystal Cathedral. She strongly supported the Oakdale Cemetery
Trust Fund. Dottie leaves her husband Dellas Ross, Dillsboro
five children, James Deaton, Dillsboro, Robert Deaton, Stevenensville,
Mi, daughters, Barbara Ruble, Scottsdale, AZ, Phyllis Masing of
Marion, IN and Karen Donahue of Tuscon, AZ. 11 Grandchildren
and 8 Great Grandchildren Family and friends will cherish
many fond memories of Dottie. Funeral service will be at Emmanuel
Lutheran Church, Greendale, IN at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 19, 2006
, Rev. Gary Anderson and Rev. Jeremiah Russell officiating. Visitation
will be Tuesday 2-7 PM at the home of Dottie and Dellas Ross, 12915

Anna (Betsy) E. (Ham) Schneider, age 82,
of Dillsboro, Ind., died Tuesday,
July 11, 2006, at her daughter’s residence in Dillsboro, Ind. She
was employed for 25 years at the Busy Bee Restaurant in Clifton
and was a member of Assembly of God, Paris IL. She was
the daughter of the late Caleb Ham and the late Willie Belle (Francis)
Ham. She is survived by her: Three Daughters, Daughter-Sandra
(J.C.) Privett of Dillsboro, Ind. Daughter-Francie (Ronald) Bien
of Harrison, Ohio Daughter-Phoebe (Rick) Petticrew of Paris, Ill.
Three Sons, Son-John (Annita) Schneider of Moores Hill, Ind. Son-Peter
(Christine) S. Schneider of Harrison, Ohio Son-James Schneider of
Dillsboro, Ind. Two Sisters, Sister-Katherine (Arthur) Brill of
Cincinnati, Ohio Sister-Myrtle (Virgil) Hudnall of Indianapolis,
Ind.

brothers and sisters. Arrangements are being handled by Ulrich
Filter Funeral Home, PO Box 146, Dillsboro, Ind., where the family

PM Friday, July 14, 2006 , Brother Buddy Hamm officiating. Interment
will be at Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro, Ind. Memorials may be
